Located near Kilternan on the Dublin/Wicklow border, therapeutic riding delivers numerous benefits for physical, mental, emotional well-being as well as sensory regulation.

Why Therapeutic Horse Riding?
Natural Movement Mimics Walking
One of the most remarkable aspects of therapeutic riding is how the movement of the horse mimics the human gait. As riders sit on the horse and experience its rhythmic motion, their bodies receive the same sensory input as walking, stimulating muscles, balance, and posture. This gentle motion helps individuals improve core strength, coordination, overall motor skills, and helps regulate the nervous system.
Enhancing Coordination and Motor Skills
Therapeutic horse riding engages the entire body, requiring subtle shifts in balance and muscle control. Participants develop greater hand-eye coordination, improved reflexes, and increased flexibility. Over time, riders gain better muscle tone and mobility, making everyday movements easier and more fluid.
Calming the Nervous System
The rhythmic motion of the horse, combined with the tranquil outdoor environment, creates an exceptionally calming experience and promotes sensory integration and regulation. For individuals with autism, ADHD, or anxiety, therapeutic riding helps regulate the nervous system, reducing stress levels and promoting relaxation and focus.
Improving Spatial Awareness and Balance
As riders adjust to the horse's movements, they naturally develop better spatial awareness and balance. This helps individuals become more confident in their body positioning, improving their posture, stability, and overall physical awareness in everyday life.
Deepening the Connection with Horses and Nature
Interacting with horses fosters a unique emotional bond. Horses are highly perceptive animals, responding to the rider’s emotions and body language. This connection nurtures trust, empathy, and self-awareness, allowing individuals to develop stronger communication skills. Moreover, spending time in nature enhances mindfulness and mental well-being.
