Mindful Grooming & Stable Management

At Happy Hooves, we provide a holistic and structured approach to equine therapy, offering a safe, supportive environment where individuals can benefit from the powerful bond between horse and human. Our services go beyond traditional therapeutic riding, incorporating mindful grooming, stable management, and personalised equine-assisted activities that support emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. Located in a tranquil countryside setting, our facility is designed to be welcoming and inclusive, catering to individuals of all ages and needs.

MINDFUL GROOMING

MINDFUL GROOMING

In the equine world, grooming refers to the practice of brushing a horse’s body and coat—a simple, caring routine that helps us care for our equine companions and spend meaningful time with them. But beyond detangling manes, checking for sore spots, or removing loose hair, grooming offers something deeper: a chance to slow down and truly be present.
Mindful grooming transforms this everyday task into a grounding, sensory-rich experience. Through gentle breathing techniques, grounding exercises, and focused observation, participants become more attuned to their own body sensations, their connection with the horse, and the environment around them.

BENEFITS OF MINDFUL GROOMING:

  • Calms the nervous system

  • Improves body and spatial awareness

  • Encourages a sense of connection

  • Promotes grounding and presence

  • Fosters empathy

  • Helps slow down and appreciate the moment

We welcome individuals of all backgrounds and experiences to join our grooming sessions. Each session is thoughtfully tailored to the participant’s needs or personal goals. To maintain a calm, respectful space for the horses, we limit participation to one to three people per horse, allowing everyone to engage fully—without overwhelming the animal.

INDIVIDUALISED STABLE MANAGEMENT

At Happy Hooves, we offer individualized stable management sessions for anyone interested in learning about horse care, regardless of age, background, or experience level. These sessions are designed to be inclusive and adaptable, making them perfect for adults, children, and individuals with additional needs, as well as those who may have left school early or need to be more present in their bodies.

Stable management includes a variety of hands-on tasks around the yard, such as feeding, grooming, mucking out, and looking after the horses. All activities are ground-based, meaning no riding is required, and you don’t need any prior experience or knowledge. We meet each participant where they are, working at a pace that feels comfortable and encouraging them to physically and mentally challenge themselves in a supportive environment. Together with the participant—or their family or care team—we set personalized goals that foster growth, self-awareness, and empowerment.
